The Majestic Chihuahua Meets San Diego
Although Chihuahuas may be the world’s smallest dog breed, they accomplish the feat with such grace, charm, and personality that they rival larger breeds as a companion for your family. Descended from the warm plains of Mexico, the little Chihuahua could find no better place than San Diego, as they do best in warm, city environments.
The Chihuahua’s ancestors, known as the “Techichi,” accompanied the Toltec people of Mexico as loving companion dogs, and this trait carries on in modern Chihuahuas, as they are quick to bond with and shadow their owners. There’s a lot behind what makes these small pups tick, so take the time to research your Chihuahua’s behavior, as well as their breed information.
While Chihuahuas may be small, they require at least thirty minutes of physical stimulation per day, and like any other dog, they will unleash pent up energy if left unchecked. Luckily, San Diego offers a good deal of things for a naturally inquisitive dog like the Chihuahua to enjoy!
If you’d like to take your Chihuahua somewhere they can run around off-leash without any worry of bumping into larger dogs, hop on a ferry and check out Fiesta Island Dog Park, where your Chihuahua will have plenty of space to run around the fenced-in area by the dunes, and even take a small dip in the calm bay waters.
San Diego also offers plenty of Chihuahua-specific clubs for you and your pup to join. If you’d like your Chihuahua to make new friends while you meet other owners, consider joining the San Diego Chihuahua Meetup at Doyle Dog Park. Your Chihuahua will thank you!
