NYC: The Big City for Pitties!
When you think of the American Pitbull Terrier, no better place comes to mind than the sprawling streets of New York, NY. These loving, wiggly, energetic dogs have short hair like most terriers, along with big hearts that match their size. Known for their playful personality as a loving family dog, the Pitbull is a great companion to adopt!
Pitbulls alone are not an individual dog breed. The Pitbull Terrier, however, is recognized by the American Kennel Club as a breed descended from English Boxers and Wire-Haired Terriers. Originally bred for entertainment, the Pitbull went on to become a working dog on the American frontier. It was here the Pitbull became a popular family dog. Since they were so good with small children, they became known as “nanny dogs.” If you’re considering adopting a Pitbull in New York City there are plenty of exciting things to do in The Big Apple.
If you would like to give your Pitbull some much needed play and activity, look no further than Morning Side Dog Run, where your pup will play and run across different levels of the park. The park also offers water for your dog to drink, and plenty of trees for shade during the hot New York summer. The Park even offers a separate area for big dogs like your Pitbull.
If your Pitbull has had enough running and wants to make some new Pittie friends, then take him to an NYC Pitbull Group meetup, where New York Pitbull owners meet at dog-friendly parks and other places to socialize their dogs and help change the public’s impression of Pitbulls. They even do work to help those with Pitbulls find an appropriate New York apartment.
Last but not least, before you decide to call it a day, why not take your Pitbull on a New York pleasure cruise? New York’s Seastreak Ferry lets leashed dogs hop aboard for a wonderful ride with many scenic views of the island city. You can even take your Pitbull all the way to the Statue of Liberty if you’d like. New York is a welcoming city for Pitbulls, so get out and adopt one today!
The best way to save a beloved Pitbull, or any pet, is to keep them out of the shelter system. Rehoming a dog or cat is a better kind of pet adoption, in every way.
