San Diego Loves Pitbulls!

San Diego is a welcoming home for the American Pitbull Terrier. These large, athletic dogs possess hearts that rival their stature. Pitbulls make for playful, loving family members, and if socialized early, Pitbulls do well with small children. This makes the Pitbull Terrier a favorite for adoptions by young families in San Diego.

Originally bred from English Bulldogs, Pitbull Terriers’ imposing size and sheer athletic determination can be accredited to their history in bull baiting and ratting for entertainment. Once in America, however, Pitbulls became the catchall frontier dog, where they herded livestock and guarded family members. Their loving nature toward children gave them the reputation as a “nanny” dog.

This history contributed to the modern Pitbull’s fun loving, silly, energetic but loyal demeanor. For more information, check out the American Pitbull’s history and breed details. Your Pitbull requires plenty of physical stimulation each day. Luckily, San Diego has plenty of cool things for you and your Pitbull Terrier to do!

Pitbulls enjoy swimming and water immensely, so hop on down San Diego’s own Ocean Beach Dog Beach, America’s first official off-leash dog-friendly beach. In operation since 1972, your Pitbull will love to romp and play in the water with new canine friends! Just be sure to pick up after your Pitbull before you leave.

If the waves aren’t your Pitbull’s thing, and you just want to take them somewhere they can run around, look no further than Nobel Leash Free Park, where there is over 4,500 square feet of fenced-in space for you and your dog to run about and explore. The park is a great place for your Pitbull to socialize with other pups as well!

San Diego may be just the place for your family to adopt a Pitbull!
